ABOUT THE TOUR
The Annual Hervie Blyther HBCU Tour was so named after our aforementioned Brother Hervie Blyther (Beta '76). Brother Hervie passed on to Omega Chapter on December 5, 2010 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. It was Hervie's dream that every child be afforded the opportunity to attend college. In that spirit, he helped spearhead the Zeta Iota Iota Chapter Annual HBCU Tour Program.
The HBCU Tour is dedicated to showing all high school students from the 10th through the 12th grade the rich history, traditions and opportunity that awaits them at any one of the one hundred and five HBCU's.
Through the years, the brothers of ZII have worked hand-in-hand with students, parents, school faculty and staff to make their dream of attending college a reality. We have toured dozens historically black colleges and universities up and down the east coast. And have helped place hundreds of kids in these institutions of higher learning in keeping with the mandates and cardinal principals of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
HBCU TOUR FACTS AT-A-GLANCE
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Zeta Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. sponsors a tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) annually. In alignment with the national goals of this prominent organization, the tour advances the fraternity's programmatic emphasis of youth development and educational enrichment. As such, the tour affords students with opportunities to make direct on-site inquires of college officials while simultaneously matching institutions of higher learning with their educational goals and career aspirations.
OBJECTIVES

To introduce students to college campus life and provide them with a series of informational sessions and guided tours of a select group of HBCUs

To provide students with an enhanced awareness of the academic programs, entrance requirements, career opportunities, financial resources, and social and emotional support mechanisms offered by HBCUs
COST OF TRIP INCLUDES
TRANSPORTATION

Round-trip travel to several HBCUs through different states on the eastern seaboard.

Luxuriously comfortable deluxe motor coach transportation with televisions, DVD players, videos, reclining seats, and other amenities
LODGING

Three to four students per room in quality hotels

Opportunity to select roommates in advance
MEALS

Breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotels and universities on the itinerary
SUPERVISION

Adult supervision with maximum chaperone/student ratio of 1:10

All chaperones have criminal background, child line, and FBI security clearance on file

Hotel-staffed security during sleeping hours
ACTIVITIES

Mini-conferences, question and answer sessions with college admission officials

Follow-up questions and discussions with well-versed college-educated chaperones

Guided tours conducted by college admission officials and/or their designees to include campuses, libraries, dining rooms, gymnasiums, classroom buildings

Opportunity to interact with trained college student ambassadors

Browse university bookstores, opportunities for study/homework

Supervised social gatherings (games, music, movies, etc.) at hotel
SPECIAL NOTES

No drug or alcohol use, no smoking, no gambling, no room visitation from the opposite sex, no profanity, no violations of established dress code for on-site tours, no weapons

SERIOUS ACTS OF MISCONDUCT MAY RESULT IN IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL FROM THE TOUR AT THE EXPENSE OF PARENTS AND/OR GUARDIANS
