ABOUT BRIDGE BUILDERS

The goal and purpose of the ZII Bridge Builders Mentorship Program is to empower young African-American males in our community to reach their goals by providing guidance and positive direction. The program’s aim is to improve self-esteem, social competence and avoid high-risk behaviors by providing relationships with caring, professional adults who work to help them reach their full potential. Never before has the need been greater for young African-American males to be exposed to positive images of manhood. The Brothers of Zeta Iota Iota Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. are excited to serve as positive role models for the young Bridge Builders selected into our program.

ZII Bridge Builders Mentorship Program was created to help young African-American males actualize their full potential by being exposed to positive men who have a vested interest in their physical and physiological wellbeing. We hope that parents and guardians see the value in partnering with us and allowing your son(s) or young men to participate in our mentorship program. We understand that there is strength in numbers, so we ask that you feel free to share this information with other parents or guardians who have a young male that can benefit from this awesome opportunity.

BRIDGE BUILDERS AT-A-GLANCE
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

ZII Bridge Builders: The Brothers of Zeta Iota Iota understand the importance of paying it forward. We recognize that our young African-American males are in desperate need of positive guidance and the influence of men, who model the tenants of real manhood. As Bridge Builders ourselves, we understand the importance of taking an active role in helping young males foster positive relationships to help them develop a deeper awareness of Self, Family and Community. “There followed after me to-day a youth whose feet must pass this way...” [1]

PROGRAM FORMAT

For our annual season, the program will run from October to August. We have accepted 10-15 young males, with projected goals to increase annually. We will meet monthly as a group for engaging and enriching activities designed to focus on improving social skills, taking responsibilities for our actions, developing emotional intelligence, developing a deeper awareness of self, family and community and strong emphasis on the importance of education and breaking the cycle of poverty and incarceration.

MENTEE PROFILE

Mentees ages 7-13 have been be our targeted demographic for each year. We are deliberately focusing on this cluster demographic as we build scale and capacity to eventually widen our targeted audience. Our ultimate goal is to serve young males from first grade through high school and postsecondary education and beyond.

PROGRAM FOCUS

There are three core areas that our program will focus on primarily:

  • MENTORING

  • ACADEMIC AND SOCIAL ENRICHMENT
